The Mundelein Fire Department of Illinois was bestowed the Intergovernmental Risk Management Agency (IRMA) 2020 Innovative Risk Management Award for the department’s use of the patented Aerapy Zone360 upper air device in its fire stations. The award recognizes demonstration of “an ability to mitigate a new or emerging risk within their organization either with innovative technology or development of a program that other members could emulate in their own organization.” The Village of Mundelein and the fire department were recognized for their efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic with the use of Aerapy’s UV disinfection technology which has been shown to destroy more than 99.9% of SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. In addition to helping eliminate SARS-CoV-2, in previous laboratory testing Aerapy UV was found to eliminate more than 99.998% of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), “an increasingly important concern for firefighters,” according to the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences at the University of Washington. MRSA can live for weeks or months putting first responders at risk where they work and live. Aerapy UV can help maintain a “clean zone” in living quarters to help prevent the spread of MRSA and other infectious diseases.
